[Background]
We meet Jane Foster as a post doctoral student in astrophysics, studying Einstein-Rosen bridges, or wormholes as they are commonly called, in New Mexico. She is hot on the trail of known occurences when she stumbles onto Thor as he is sent to Earth in exile, or to be more precise, she hits him with her van after he arrives on earth via Bifrost in a maelstrom of dust. Oops?
Jane, along with her assistant, Darcy and her mentor, Dr. Erik Selvig, take the injured Thor to the hospital after Darcy tazed the to them delirious Thor. He proceeds to trash the ER before he was subdued and given a shot.
Jane returns to her rented lab, a former car dealership, to analyze the data she had managed to collect, and thanks to Darcy, learned that her camera caught an image of Thor coming through the Bifrost, or as she termed it, an Einstein-Rosen bridge. Wormhole for Darcy. They dash to the hospital, to find he tore up a room, and escaped some pretty heavy-duty restraints. They manage to find Thor, after Jane runs over him again. She's a touch dangerous while driving, as least to Thor.
Jane dresses him in her ex's clothes, a Dr. Donald Blake, and takes him to eat. He manages to put away an impressive amount of food and shows how he is not used to humans. Thor overhears two men talking about something that landed fifty miles away, and believing it is his hammer, attempts to persuade Jane to take him there in exchange for him telling her how he got to Earth. Dr. Selvig manages to talk Jane out of doing so, and Thor and Jane part ways. She is returning back to her lab when she notices her lab being carted away by SHIELD. Everything is taken, despite her protests and the offer of a check by Agent Coulson. Everything including Darcy's iPod and the backups of the backups. Jane leaves to find Thor who is seeking a way to the crater, and gives him a ride, against the wishes of Dr. Selvig. She witnesses Thor breaking into the compound and his attempt to retrieve his hammer, and the subsequent failure. She leaves after he is arrested and taken away and returns back to Puente Antiguo, to try to figure her next move. Jane argues with Erik to try to persuade him that helping Thor is a good thing, even though Erik is of the opinion Thor is a dangerous man who speaks of childhood tales. Selvig, however, goes to fetch Thor, bluffing that he is actually a delirious drunk by the name of Donald Blake. They leave, and Thor takes back Jane's notebook. They come back after a time, with a very drunk Erik slung over Thor's shoulder. Jane is embarrassed by how messy her trailer is, and shoves her cereal into a cabinet. They go to the roof of the dealership and talk, with Thor drawing Jane a map of the realms, and explaining the Bifrost to her. She falls asleep after their talk, trusting Thor.
The morning after, while they are fixing breakfast, his friends, Volstagg, Sif, Fandral, and Hogun arrive and try to persuade him to return, telling him despite Loki's words, Odin lives. But the Destroyer arrives as well, sent by Loki, who is intent on destroying Thor. With the help of his friends, he gets the townspeople to safety before fighting the Destroyer. He is injured, near death, and Jane is convinced he really is dead, until Mjolnir arrives, giving Thor back his power and enabling him to defeat the Destroyer. Jane is impressed by Thor's proof he really is Thor, and he takes her to his landing spot, to show her the Bifrost. They bid each other a fond farewell, and he promises to return. Jane does not know the Bifrost had been destroyed, and continues her research, waiting for Thor to return or for her to find a way to Asgard herself.
[Personality]
Science! Science! Jane is a astrophysicist with a strong belief that science has an explanation for everything. She's determined to follow through on her quest for knowledge, and the stubbornness to see it through, despite objections from others, like her mentor, Dr. Selvig, or any possible danger to herself or others, as witnessed by her insistence on Darcy driving the expedition vehicle straight towards the maelstrom created by Thor's arrival to Earth. Darcy is her assistant, and the only one who applied, despite being a political science major, and no knowledge of Jane's subject area. Jane is tolerant of her, and easily adapts to her level of knowledge, while appreciating Darcy's take on things, despite the usual annoyances found when one spends a lot of time with another person.
Jane prizes knowledge, especially anything to do with her area of study, and is willing to listen fairly to new ways of looking at the world, which explains her willingness to help Thor, even though he is so much different from the human men she is used to, as witnessed by her awkwardness with him at first, and her reaction to his manners. Not many human men can get away with kissing hands, and not be thought of trying too hard or worse. She is also willing to take risks, though not without some debate, and regrets, even though one particular one enabled her to see that Thor wasn't as dangerous as her mentor feared. She is also not one to wallow in her disappointments, such as when all of her research is taken, making a vow to start fresh.
Jane's relationship with Dr. Erik Selvig is the classic teacher/student one, where she is eager to impress him with what she has learned, and how she has grown since, while he still is in the teacher mode, still trying to teach her narrow views of the world despite his own words about following every avenue of inquiry. She grows past her initial boundaries, gaining a new view of the world, and her role in it, thanks to Thor's arrival.

This isn't my area, but it is a fundamental part of physics and mathematics to figure out how to determine an answer to the age old question of What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
Now, it depends on certain variables, being the frequency of wingbeats, the amplitude which is the vertical distance of the wingtip during the flapping stroke, and the forward speed. The formula uses a number, called a Strouhal ratio, which is written thusly: ƒA/U in which ƒ represents the frequency multiplied by the amplitude written as A divided by the speed which is written as U. That results in the ratio which usually ranges between 0.2 and 0.4, so for our purposes, we use 3, since that falls between the two extremes. So, the full formula is U = 3ƒA.
So that means one can answer the question with a formula, which can accept any data. Is that not the answer to the question? I would finish out the proof, if I had the data of the swallow in question, but that should work to determine the speed of anything that flies using wings and aren't airplanes.
[Third Person]
Rain. It brought back memories of the night she had helped Thor try to get back his hammer and instead be arrested while she lay helpless to do anything to help him. Jane glanced at the umbrella, lying in the wet street, the spines snapped from the force of the gust, then up the street. Her gaze touched on a nearby shack, her mind dismissing it as soon as she saw it. It may have given her shelter but it looked flimsier than a tarp. I don't think so. I am not that desperate, she thought, deciding to try her luck elsewhere.
She flipped up her coat collar, and trudged on, carefully avoiding the puddles. Better not to get any wetter than she already was, feeling the cold rain seeping into her clothes. A house caught her eye, and tempted, she moved closer, ready to get out of the wet. But she stopped, stomach churning in shock. Was that blood? She thought back to the horror flicks her friends in college tried to inflict on her and knowing what usually happens in those sorts of things, Jane moved away from the house, the rain a better option than possible dismemberment. Light spilling out onto the rain slick streets like a golden beacon of hope made her hurry her steps despite the fact that it was quite a bit distant from where she had abandoned her umbrella.
Jane shivered, her jacket soaked. She picked New Mexico for the mostly clear skies at night, and this rain was entirely too much. I like it dry. I can't see the stars if it's raining. Her eyes flicked up to the cloudy sky, orange tinted from the light pollution from the city. Being cut off from the stars was almost painful, especially after Thor's spectacular arrival into her life of quiet study, almost like a meteorite landing in the desert. Which to be honest, the hammer technically was, considering it had been stuck in rock upon landing. Quite interesting thought, really, that things and beings from space could have such an effect on Earth in general and her in particular.
[Why do you want to play this character in Somarium?] I've been stalking the game and thought Jane would work beautifully here, as well as provide a balance to the other game she is in.

Name: Jane Foster
Canon: Marvel Movieverse: Thor (2011)
Original or Alternate Universe: Original
Canon Point: Just after Thor leaves Earth on the Bifrost, after his battle with the Destroyer
Number: 042, or random
Setting: Jane's Earth looks like ours, yet has a few fundamental differences: it is under the purview of beings who are from another dimension, and holds magic and science, which on the surface is quite indistinguishable. Where else would one get a minature arc reactor and super serum and a hammer that chooses its master? Oh yes, and gamma radiation + serum equals a green monster, and a cube filled with great power is fought over, affecting history on Earth for centuries, yet it all seems to be the stuff of legends and fairy-tales, and in one case, comic books. It is a Shakespearean drama and shows the intersection of magic and science, for they both are indistinguishable at a high enough level.
Jane Foster is a scientist who discovers Thor on his initial arrival to Earth, and helps him in his quest to retrieve his hammer and to prove himself worthy.

She was floating. Not in the vastness of space, but in liquid? Did she fall asleep in the bathtub? She didn't even have a bathtub, just a shower. And why is something in her throat? Did she wreck and everything she knew was just a drug hallucination?
As the fluid drained, Jane blinked up at the ceiling, still dazed. She sat up, stifling a shriek. This was no hospital, unless it was one of those for the mentally ill. She wasn't crazy. Or was she? No. She was perfectly sane. Okay. An inventory. She was naked, covered in some blue liquid, or was, and had a tattoo. That was the odd thing. Weren't tattoos supposed to be something other than numbers? And where was she?
Slowly standing up, arms crossed over her bare body, Jane moved to find anything, something to cover herself. This was like one of those horror movies, waking up naked and in a strange place.
She moved slowly, cautiously, looking behind anything with enough space to hide something. Caution seemed to be the winner here, since this was certainly an unknown situation.
Jane turned a corner and blinked. Why would there be lockers with numbers? Instead of horror, this was looking like one of those B-movies she would watch sometimes when the weather was too bad to go outside. Oddly enough, there was a locker matching her number. Dithering for a moment, Jane opened it, surprised to find clothes and was that her notebook? First, though, clothes. She wasn't like Thor, comfortable enough to walk around shirtless and wearing low riding pants, though it was a good look. Focus, Jane.
Properly dressed, but missing her flannel shirt, Jane picked up the other thing in her locker, and poked at it. Odd. Why would this be here?
At the voice coming from the device, she mentally facepalmed. She really was in a science fiction movie, or someone's idea of a joke at the very least. Well, it would be a good idea to play along until proven otherwise., was her mental thought, still wary of everything she saw.
Jane picked up her notebook, rifling through the pages. Everything seemed to be in order, and she breathed a sigh of relief. Even Thor's drawing was there. She clasped it to her chest, and carrying the device, went to see what she could learn about this colossal joke someone had to have been playing on her.

Personality:
Science!
Abilities, Weaknesses and Power Limitations:
Human female and the abilities and weaknesses inherent to an orthohuman. She is very intelligent, with a Ph.D in astrophysics, specializing in Einstein-Rosen bridges and an adequate grounding in the other sciences. Don't ask her to drive with Thor around. She tends to nearly wreck or run him over.
Inventory: Her notebook with her research notes.
Appearance: Short, straight brown hair, brown eyes, looks like Natalie Portman if she wore flannel and long sleeves. Jane Foster

Anyone else get the feeling this is a giant joke? Like one of those bad science fiction movies, the ones only shown after midnight. I would like to know when the big reveal is, so I can go back to doing my work.
